Berry Green Fruity Smoothie
P, at The Lipstick Cafe, and I must have been channeling each other lately. It happens.
I’ve known P since 2003. WOW! How time flies. We met in college through Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity, and stayed friends over the years. We share stories about our jobs, our lives, our wants, and our dreams to pursue what we love most. She’s inspired me to do things to reach my dream and encouraged me to do what I feel like and what I love. “Less talking and more doing” is how I can describe how the motivation has inspired me. Visit her blog and you’ll get to know this writer who loves to read, travel, and experiment with food, in and outside the kitchen. You’ll know why I’m glad I have a fantastic person like her to share good meals and stories with.
There are several interests that keep us talking, namely food, the other being health and fitness, among other things. When I say health and fitness, I’m not talking about dieting strategies and how to lose fat fast, I’m talking about keeping your body strong and energetic and feeding you body delicious food that it will thank you for later.
Lately, I’ve been starting out my mornings with a ‘power’ smoothie aka ‘kitchen sink’ smoothie, and apparently so has P, and she’s seemed to have found her favorite power fruit smoothie. I, on the other hand, treat my smoothies like a kitchen sink… anything goes, but there always some good consistent bases.
My choice of smoothie today was my ‘Berry Green Fruity Smoothie’. I always use almond milk as a base, if there’s no almond milk, then coconut water, if there’s no coconut water, then I pray that there’s something else in my kitchen that will supplement, or else I eat my smoothie with a spoon. In addition to the almond milk, I always put in ground flax seed and green veggies, broccoli or spinach is my choice. Since I’m trying to cut out the sugar content in my belly, I always make sure I have more veggies than fruits in my smoothies most of the time, but never less.
BERRY GREEN FRUITY SMOOTHIE
- 1 cup almond milk
- 2TBSP ground flax seed
- 1 handful (about 1 cup or so) washed broccoli
- 1cup mixed frozen fruits, I used half berries (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries) and half mangos.
almond milk, ground flax seed, and broccoli on the bottom, then the frozen fruit medley on top
- Pour almond milk into the blender. Add the ground flax seed, broccoli and frozen fruits.
- Mix until desired consistency
Tip: I put the more ‘fragile’ items (flax seed powder, spinach, mint, etc) in first, so that the weight of the ‘tougher’ ones (broccoli, frozen fruits, ice, apples, etc) can thoroughly mix the ‘fragile’ items into the smoothie.
